Public Dunes at Maui Lani gets rave reviews

Visiting golfers (and locals) are raving about The Dunes at Maui Lani, a new public daily-fee links-style design similar to those found along the coast of Ireland.

The complete story

Aloha to great public golf

Located in central Maui’s main population and tourist center, Kahului, The Dunes at Maui Lani is a huge hit with local and visiting golfers. Total number of rounds has exceeded expectations by as much as 170% (but don’t worry about slow or crowded play--tee times are well-spaced).

The course is unlike any other in the state of Hawai’i, in that massive elevation changes are incorporated, thanks to the sand and dunes. This allowed the golf design firm of Nelson & Haworth to incorporate architectural concepts not seen before on these golf-crazy islands. The result is a course that winds through a secluded kiawe tree forest, with dramatic changes in elevation, 70 steep-faced bunkers, and demanding greens all making for a true test of any golfer’s skills. It’s common to see mallard ducks, blue herons, quail, and wild, but reportedly friendly, boar during a round at this stunning layout.

Nelson & Haworth also designed a 7,000-square-foot golf clubhouse that includes all amenities, as well as a 10-acre practice facility and 390-yard driving range that includes five target greens, a practice putting green, a sand bunker, and a short game practice area.
